Paper strapping band 9–15 mm

This is a paper strapping band for bundling and banding, in three widths: 9, 12 and 15 mm. It holds a bundle together the way a PP strap does, and then goes into the paper recycling with the carton.

It is made for light and medium loads. Bundles of cartons, printed matter, profiles, trays and palletised goods that need to be held together rather than pulled down hard.

In a banding machine the band comes off a coil and the machine lays it around the bundle and closes it. Our ECOBAND-S runs paper and OPP band 12 mm wide from a coil with a 40 mm core, up to 160 mm across and 0.12 mm thick.

By hand it is closed with a seal and a crimping tool. What it is not made for is a friction-weld machine for PP strap: that joint is made by melting the strap, and paper does not melt.

Where paper replaces plastic

  • One material with the carton. A bundle banded with paper goes into the cardboard recycling whole, no plastic strap to cut off and sort.
  • Three widths. 9 mm for small bundles, 12 mm for the usual carton, 15 mm where the bundle is heavier or the edges are sharper.
  • It does not cut into the goods. A paper band spreads its tension over a wider, softer face than a thin plastic strap, which matters on printed cartons and soft goods.
  • It runs in a banding machine. The band comes off a coil, so a machine can lay and close hundreds of bundles a day without an operator holding anything.
  • Quiet and clean. No heat, no smoke and no melted plastic smell at the working point.
  • It looks like the packaging. Brown paper on brown board, which is what a customer expects from packaging that is meant to be recycled.

What you get

  • Paper strapping band for bundling and banding
  • Widths 9, 12 and 15 mm
  • Biodegradable and recyclable with paper and cardboard
  • For light and medium loads
  • Supplied on coils for banding machines
  • 12 mm coil in our range: 150 m, core 40 mm, up to 160 mm across, 0.12 mm thick
  • Closed in a banding machine, or by hand with a seal and a crimping tool
  • Not for friction-weld machines built for PP strap

How it is applied

  1. Put the coil on the machine’s holder and lead the band through the guides, or take a roll to the bundling table.
  2. Set the band width on the machine and, where the machine allows it, the tension.
  3. Place the bundle under the band, or push it into the arch of the banding machine.
  4. Let the machine lay the band around the bundle and close it; by hand, fit the seal and crimp it.
  5. Check the first bundle of the shift: the band should hold the stack without cutting into the top carton.

Storage and handling

  • Tension. Paper takes a moderate tension. Pulled like a PP strap it tears, and the bundle is no safer for it.
  • Keep it dry. Wet paper loses strength. A band that has stood in a damp corner or under a leaking roof is not the band you tested with.
  • Width to the bundle. The wider the band, the more of the load it spreads. On sharp edges use a wider band or a corner protector.
  • The coil. In a machine, the core and the outer diameter have to match the holder, in our range that is a 40 mm core and up to 160 mm across.
  • Storage. Indoors, dry, off the floor, in the box the coils came in. Paper picks up moisture from a concrete floor.
  • Not on a PP machine. A friction-weld head melts the strap to close it. Paper does not melt; the machine will simply cut through it.

Before you order

The price is on this page. A band is bought for the bundle and the machine, so check these before you order:

  • Width. 9, 12 or 15 mm. The 12 mm is what our banding machines run as standard.
  • Your machine. A banding machine for paper or OPP band, such as the ECOBAND-S. Tell us the machine and we confirm the coil core and diameter.
  • Weight of the bundle. Paper is for light and medium loads. For a pallet that has to be pulled down hard, PET or PP strapping is the right material.
  • Dry or wet. If the goods travel or stand in the wet, paper is the wrong band.
  • By hand or by machine. By hand it needs seals and a crimping tool; in a machine it needs nothing else.
  • How much. Our 12 mm paper band comes 150 m to a roll. Count the metres per bundle and the bundles per week.

What is the typical width range of the Paper Strap 9-15mm?

The Paper Strap 9-15mm typically ranges in width from 9 to 15 millimeters, suitable for various packaging needs.

Is the Paper Strap 9-15mm suitable for heavy-duty packaging?

Paper strapping is generally best for light to medium-duty applications; for heavy-duty needs, stronger materials like plastic or steel may be preferred.

Can Paper Strap 9-15mm be used for environmentally friendly packaging?

Yes, paper strapping is biodegradable and recyclable, making it an eco-friendly alternative to plastic strapping.

What types of products are commonly secured with Paper Strap 9-15mm?

It is commonly used for bundling lightweight items, cartons, and palletizing goods where moderate tension is sufficient.

Is the Paper Strap 9-15mm compatible with automatic strapping machines?

Many paper straps in this size range are compatible with semi-automatic and automatic strapping machines designed for paper or composite straps.

How durable is Paper Strap 9-15mm under moisture exposure?

Paper strapping can lose strength when wet, so it is best used in dry conditions or with protective coatings for moisture resistance.

What is the recommended method for sealing Paper Strap 9-15mm?

Paper straps are typically sealed using metal or plastic seals and crimping tools designed for paper strapping.

Can Paper Strap 9-15mm be customized in length or color?

Yes, many suppliers offer customization options for length and color to meet specific branding or packaging requirements.

Does Paper Strap 9-15mm provide adequate tension retention during transport?

Paper strap provides moderate tension retention suitable for stable loads but may require additional reinforcement for heavy or shifting cargo.
