Kraft paper tape 50 mm × 50 m

This is self-adhesive kraft paper tape, 50 mm wide and 50 m long on a roll. It closes a cardboard box the same way a plastic tape does, but the box and the tape are then one material.

A box holds 72 rolls: 3600 m of tape, enough for a long run of cartons without a trip to the store room.

The tape is paper with a natural rubber (solvent-based) adhesive: it is recyclable, it holds on recycled cardboard, and it comes off without leaving a sticky film on the box.

50 mm is inside the range of every carton sealer we sell. FLEX TAPE, TOP TAPE, AUTO-TAPE, RUBBER and AUTO&FOLD-5050 all run kraft or BOPP tape from 48 mm upwards, and it works just as well from a hand dispenser.

Why paper tape instead of plastic

• One material in the bin. A carton closed with paper tape goes into the cardboard recycling whole. Nobody has to pull a plastic strip off first.
• It holds on recycled board. Recycled cardboard is dusty and porous, which is where cheap plastic tape lets go. Paper tape with a rubber adhesive grips it.
• It leaves the box clean. Removed, it takes no sticky residue with it, which matters on boxes that are used again.
• It looks like packaging, not like tape. Brown paper on a brown box; a printed tape can be added later without a plastic strip across the logo.
• It runs in the machines you have. 48 to 72 mm is what our carton sealers take, so 50 mm needs no conversion.
• 72 rolls in a box. 3600 m per box, so a packing line is stocked for weeks, not days.

How it is used

1. Put the roll in the tape head of the carton sealer, or in a hand dispenser.
2. Set the tape leg, the length of tape folded over the front and the back of the carton.
3. Close the flaps and run the carton through; the head lays the tape down and cuts it.
4. Press the tape down along the seam, especially at the two ends where it is folded over.
5. For a heavy or full box, add a second strip across the first at right angles.

Storage and handling

• Press it down. A paper tape sticks by the pressure it is given. A roller or a firm hand along the seam is the difference between a box that holds and one that opens.
• Clean, dry cardboard. Dust, damp and cold all cost adhesion. A box straight from an unheated yard takes the tape badly.
• Temperature. It is rated to 60 C; store it at 18-30 C and bring it to room temperature before use.
• Not for the rain. Paper tape is not waterproof. For a box that will stand outside, plan a cover or a different closure.
• Keep the rolls in their box. Dust on the edge of a roll is dust on the adhesive. Take them out one at a time.
• Store indoors. Dry and at room temperature, away from a radiator and away from the floor of a cold hall.

The price is on this page. A 50 mm tape is bought for the box and the machine, so check these before you order:

• Your machine. 50 mm fits every carton sealer we sell: FLEX TAPE, TOP TAPE and AUTO-TAPE take 48–72 mm, RUBBER 48–60 mm and AUTO&FOLD-5050 the same.
• How much you use. 72 rolls of 50 m is 3600 m.
• The box itself. Recycled, dusty or cold cardboard is where a cheap tape fails. That is the case paper tape with a rubber adhesive is made for.
• Where the goods go. Not waterproof. For outdoor storage or a wet transport, plan a cover.
• Printing. This is plain brown tape. A printed tape is a separate order with a lead time.
• Hand or machine. The same roll works in a hand dispenser and in a tape head.
