Brush for the J45 floor scrubber

This is the disc brush for the J45 floor scrubber. It is the part that touches the floor: the machine carries water and detergent, but the scrubbing is done by the bristles.

The brush is 20 inch, about 508 mm, which is what gives the machine its 510 mm working width. The J45 takes one brush.

It is driven at 180 rpm by the 550 W brush motor. The bristles must stand up to that speed and keep an even pressure across the whole disc, or the machine cleans a ring and misses the middle.

A brush is a wear part. When the bristles are short and splayed, the machine takes more passes for the same floor and the result stops being even, that is the moment to change it, not when it falls apart.

The J45 floor scrubber brush is used in industrial and commercial environments where mechanized cleaning is required. Typical sites include warehouses, production areas, logistics centers, retail stores, healthcare buildings, and educational facilities. • It is what cleans. Water and vacuum do not remove dirt. The bristles do, and a worn brush shows up as streaks and a second pass.
• The full 510 mm. A 20 inch disc covers the machine’s whole working width, so one pass is one clean strip.
• Even pressure. A brush that is flat and true puts the same force on the floor across the disc; a worn one leans and cleans a ring.
• Made for this machine. The coupling and the diameter are the J45’s, so it goes on in a minute without adapters.
• Quieter and steadier. A balanced brush does not shake the chassis; an uneven one wears the motor and the bearings.
• A planned consumable. Brushes are replaced on a schedule like the squeegee rubber, not when the cleaning has already gone bad.

How the brush is changed

1. Park the machine on a level floor and raise the brush disc off the ground.
2. Switch the power on and press the brush switch briefly: the disc turns and releases the brush from the coupling.
3. Switch the machine off and take the old brush out from under the chassis.
4. Hold the new brush horizontally under the coupling, line up the drivers and push it up until it seats.
5. Lower the disc and run the machine on a small area to check that the pressure is even and the chassis does not shake.

Care and when to replace it

• Hold it flat. The brush must be horizontal when it is fitted, and the brush motor switch off. A disc fitted at an angle will not seat and can damage the coupling.
• Check the height. The brush disc has a front-to-back adjustment. After a new brush, check that the disc sits parallel to the floor.
• Rinse after the shift. Dirt and detergent dry into the bristles and make them stiff. Rinse the brush and leave it to dry off the floor.
• Never store it standing on the bristles. They take a set and the brush cleans unevenly from then on.
• Replace when the bristles are short. Worn bristles splay outwards and lose pressure in the middle of the disc; that is when passes start to double.
• Match the brush to the floor. A brush that is too hard polishes a coating; too soft and it cannot lift ground-in dirt.

The price is on this page. A brush is bought for the machine and the floor, so check these before you order:

• The machine. This is the brush for the J45. The J25, J85 and J115 take their own sizes. Order by the machine, not by the diameter alone.
• How many. The J45 takes one brush. Keep a second on the shelf so a worn one can be changed the same day.
• Brush or pad. For polishing and for very smooth floors the machine can take a pad base with a cleaning pad instead of the brush.
• The floor. Concrete, epoxy, tile and vinyl. Say which one you have, so the bristle hardness can be matched.
• How often. Count the hours the machine runs. A brush in daily industrial use is a planned replacement, not an emergency one.
• Delivery. It is a small part and travels in a box of 15 × 15 × 15 cm.
