HIPO ULTRA auto strapping machine with a 1050 × 800 mm arch

HIPO ULTRA is a fully automatic strapping machine for cartons, boxes, newspapers, magazines and similar packs. Place a pack on the table and the machine feeds PP strap around it, tensions it, seals it underneath with a hot-melt weld and cuts it – up to 75 times a minute. The arch on this machine is 1050 mm wide and 800 mm high inside, built to our order, so it takes much larger packs than the manufacturer’s standard 650 × 500 mm arch.

It runs polypropylene strap 5 mm or 6 mm wide and 0.5–0.8 mm thick; the width is set when you order. Tension is adjustable from 0 to 45 kg, the working table can be set between 850 and 950 mm, and packs of up to 80 kg can be strapped on it.

A PLC with a rotating touch screen controls the machine, a DC brushless motor drives it, and a fault warning shows why it has stopped. Strap one pack at a time with the button or the foot switch, or let the sensor on the table start the strap as soon as a pack is placed.

The manufacturer builds it for printing, logistics and manufacturing, particularly for light products. It runs on an ordinary 220 V single-phase supply.

What this banding machine does for your packing line

• Large packs fit. The 1050 × 800 mm arch is much larger than the manufacturer’s standard 650 × 500 mm arch, so big cartons and bundles pass through it.
• Keeps pace with the line. Up to 75 straps a minute, so one machine serves a busy packing station.
• The same tension on every pack. Set it once on the touch screen, from 0 to 45 kg: light for cartons that must not be crushed, firm for heavy bundles.
• Starts on its own. In automatic mode the sensor on the table starts the strap when a pack is placed; in manual mode use the button or the foot switch.

How to use the HIPO ULTRA packing machine

1. Install the PP strap coil on the dispenser, following the direction arrow on the outer flange.
2. Switch on the power and thread the strap as shown on the label; once the strap end is between the pre-feeding rollers, the machine feeds it through the arch by itself.
3. Set the tension, heater temperature and cooling time on the touch screen.
4. Wait until the heater has reached its working temperature.
5. Choose manual mode – one strap per press of the button or foot switch – or automatic mode, in which the table sensor starts strapping when a pack is placed.
6. Place the pack in the middle of the table and keep your hands away from the strapping area.

Plastic strapping settings, maintenance and common faults

• Tension. Set on the touch screen; the factory setting is 4, and a higher number means more tension. Change it in small steps.
• Heater temperature and cooling time. Both are set on the touch screen. Adjust the heater temperature when the room temperature changes a lot, and the cooling time to the strap and tension you use.
• Strap in the accumulator. Keep about 1.5 times the length of the arch and strap path in the accumulator box. Too much strap jams, too little causes short feeds – and the large arch needs more strap than a standard one.
• Weak seals. The heater temperature is usually too high or too low, or the heater plate is worn after long use and needs replacing.
• Loose straps. The tension is set too low or the tension roller is worn.
• Strap does not feed. Check that the coil is installed correctly, that the strap end sits between the pre-feeding rollers and that the accumulator holds enough strap. Clean strap dust out of the strap path regularly.
• Maintenance. Oil the cam running surfaces and rollers once a week with N68 oil and check the proximity switches regularly. Switch off and let the heater cool for about 5 minutes before any work on the machine.

Before you order an arch strapping machine

The price is shown on this page. A few details decide whether the machine suits your packs: check them before you ask for a quote, or send them to us and we will go through them with you.

• Pack size and weight. Your largest pack has to pass through the 1050 × 800 mm arch, the smallest should be at least 100 mm wide and 60 mm high, and packs can weigh up to 80 kg.
• Strap. PP strap only, 5 mm or 6 mm wide and 0.5–0.8 mm thick, on coils with a 200–210 mm core and a 400–450 mm outer diameter. It does not run paper, PET or steel strap.
• Power. A 220 V, 50/60 Hz single-phase supply; the machine draws 0.9 kW and 4 A.
• Space and floor. With this arch the machine is larger than the manufacturer’s standard model, so we confirm its exact dimensions with your quote; the shipping weight is about 230 kg. Allow at least 2000 × 1500 mm of working space and a floor rated for 350 kg/m², in a dry, ventilated room.
• Handling. Move the machine with a forklift under the frame, never under the arch, and roll it into place on its castors.
• Food, medicine and corrosive goods. For food and medicine the manufacturer recommends a stainless-steel version. With corrosive goods such as seafood, keep liquids out of the strapping head.
