Machine stretch film 500 mm / 23 µm

This is machine stretch film for a pallet wrapping machine: 500 mm wide, 23 microns thick, with 16 kg of film on the roll.

The 16 kg roll is LLDPE, the film that stretches to several times its length and pulls back. That is what holds a pallet together: not the thickness of the film but the tension the machine puts into it.

500 mm is the width every pallet wrapper takes, and our SMARTWRAP X2 machines run it on a 76 mm core with pre-stretch up to 250 %.

It comes in two versions: Standard A and PRESTRETCH POWER. Which of the two suits you depends on whether your machine’s carriage pre-stretches the film. Tell us the machine and we confirm it.

What the film has to do

• The pallet arrives as it left. A wrapped load does not shift on the vehicle, and that is cheaper than any film.
• Dust and damp stay out. A wrapped pallet can stand in a yard or a cross-dock without the goods taking the weather.
• It is the machine that saves film. Thickness is not strength: a machine that stretches the film properly uses fewer kilograms per pallet than a thicker film wrapped loose.
• 23 microns is the working middle. Thick enough for a normal palletised load, thin enough that the machine can stretch it instead of tearing it.
• 16 kg on a roll. A full machine roll, so the wrapper is not reloaded in the middle of a dispatch.
• One width for every machine. 500 mm is the standard, so the film fits the wrapper you have and the one you buy next.

How it is used

1. Put the roll on the film carriage of the wrapper and lead the film to the load.
2. Clamp the end of the film at the bottom of the pallet, or let the machine hold it.
3. Start the cycle: the turntable turns, the carriage travels up and down and the film wraps the load.
4. Let the machine make several turns at the bottom, where the load is tied to the pallet.
5. Cut the film at the end of the cycle and press the end onto the wrapped load.

Storage and handling

• Pre-stretch first, tension second. Set how far the carriage stretches the film, then how hard it pulls. Too much tension on unstretched film tears it; too little and the load moves.
• Wrap the bottom. Most of the holding comes from the turns that tie the load to the pallet. Count them, do not guess.
• Sharp corners. A film tears at a corner, not in the middle. Use corner protectors on loads with edges.
• Keep the roll clean. Grit on the edge of a roll starts a tear that runs the whole width as soon as the film is stretched.
• Store indoors. Dry, out of the sun and off a cold floor. A roll left in the sun loses its cling and its stretch.
• Not for months outdoors. Standard film gives limited UV protection. For long outdoor storage a UV-stabilised film is the right choice.

The price is on this page. Film is bought for the machine and the load, so check these before you order:

• Your machine. 500 mm film on a 76 mm core is what our SMARTWRAP X2 wrappers take. Tell us your machine and we confirm the core.
• Standard or POWER. Two versions are on this page. The choice follows the machine’s film carriage and how much it pre-stretches.
• The load. 23 microns suits a normal palletised load. For very heavy, sharp or unstable loads, say so and we check the thickness with you.
• How much you use. 16 kg of film per roll. Count the kilograms per pallet your machine actually uses, that is the number that decides the cost, not the price per roll.
• Where the pallets stand. Under a roof, this film is enough. For weeks in the open, ask for a UV-stabilised film.
• Hand wrapping. This is machine film. For wrapping by hand there is a hand roll and a dispenser.
