HAMMER automatic horizontal strapping machine for tall pallet loads

HAMMER is an automatic horizontal strapping machine: it places one or more horizontal straps around a pallet load and heat-seals each one at the side. The load does not move. The horizontal arch travels up and down the machine’s uprights and closes each strap around the stack, so tall loads stay tied together layer by layer in storage and in transport.

The standard arch measures 1500 × 1500 mm inside and takes loads 500–1500 mm long, 1000–1500 mm wide and 800–2500 mm high; arches of other sizes are built to order. Each strap takes no more than 15 seconds, tension is adjustable up to 90 kg, and the machine runs PP or PET strap 9–15 mm wide.

HAMMER is made for production lines and can be installed over a roller conveyor. A Siemens PLC with a touch screen runs it in manual, automatic or continuous mode, and together with the ARCUS vertical pallet strapping machine one line straps loads both vertically and horizontally.

As pallet strapping equipment it suits plants that ship tall, stacked loads. Typical applications named by the manufacturer include chemical fibre, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, printing and publishing, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, household appliances and ceramics.

What this pallet strapping equipment does for your line

• The load stays where it is. The arch travels up and down the uprights, so the pallet is not lifted, turned or moved between straps.
• One strap or several. Set the number of straps per load on the control panel, or apply a single strap with one button.
• Cycle times you can plan. No strap takes longer than 15 seconds, so the strapping time per pallet is predictable.
• Consistent seals. Heat sealing at the side closes at least 90% of the strap overlap, and the seal position varies by no more than 2 mm.
• Tension to suit the load. Adjustable from 0 to 90 kg: gentle on goods that must not be crushed, firm on heavy stacks.
• Your strap, your load size. Runs PP or PET strap 9–15 mm wide, and the arch can be built larger or smaller than the standard 1500 × 1500 mm.
• Complete pallet strapping in one line. Paired with the ARCUS vertical strapping machine, loads get straps both over the top and around the sides.

How horizontal strapping works on HAMMER

1. Switch on the circuit breaker: the power light comes on, and the heater needs about 30 seconds to warm up.
2. Choose the number of straps per load on the control panel.
3. Bring the load into the centre of the arch, for example on a roller conveyor.
4. A sensor detects the pallet, and the strapping unit moves forward until its travel switch touches the load.
5. The arch moves to each strap height in turn and closes a strap around the load.
6. To apply a single strap, press the strap button. The emergency stop button halts the machine at any point.

Sealing cycle of the HAMMER strapping machine, step by step

1. The strap is in position and the machine receives the strapping signal.
2. The right top knife rises and clamps the strap end against the slide.
3. The strap-withdrawing motor pulls the strap back in 0.35 seconds and tightens it around the load.
4. The swing arm tightens the strap a second time.
5. The left top knife rises and presses the lower strap layer.
6. The heater moves in between the two strap layers, and the middle top knife rises, cuts the strap and presses the layers firmly together.
7. The knives and the heater return, and the slide and the T guide plate move back.
8. The feed motor brings new strap into position against the T guide plate, and the main motor stops: the machine is ready for the next strap.

Before you order a horizontal pallet strapping machine

A few details decide whether the machine suits your line. Check them before you ask for a quote, or send them to us and we will go through them with you.

• Strap width. The strap path is set up for the strap you use, from 9 to 15 mm wide and 0.55 to 1.0 mm thick, so specify width and thickness when you order.
• Strap coils. PP or PET strap on coils with a 200–210 mm core and 400–500 mm outer diameter.
• Load size. Your largest load has to fit inside the arch. The standard 1500 × 1500 mm arch takes loads up to 1500 × 1500 mm and from 800 to 2500 mm high; other arch sizes are built to order.
• Power and air. 380 V, 50/60 Hz three-phase supply (3-phase, 4-wire with earth), 3.1 kW, 8 A, and compressed air at 0.4–0.6 MPa.
• Space and weight. 1930 × 3320 × 2800 mm (W × D × H), 350 kg.
• Delivery and installation. The machine ships partly dismantled in wooden crates. The arch is bolted on at installation, and a forklift is needed to move the machine.
• Maintenance. Lubricate the oil points listed in the manual regularly. If seals weaken when the room temperature changes a lot, adjust the heater temperature.
