HIPO ULTRA-B automatic strapping machine with conveyor and 850 × 800 mm arch

HIPO ULTRA-B is an automatic strapping machine with its own conveyor: the belt carries the package into the arch, a sensor starts the cycle, the machine puts a PP strap around the package, seals it underneath and moves it on – up to 50 straps a minute, with nobody handling the package. The arch on this machine is 850 mm wide and 800 mm high inside, built to our order; the manufacturer’s standard arch is 650 × 500 mm.

It runs polypropylene strap 5 or 6 mm wide and 0.5–0.8 mm thick – you tell us the width with the order – and closes it with a hot-melt weld under the package. Tension is adjustable up to 30 kg, the working table is 850 mm high and packages may weigh up to 80 kg.

A PLC with a touch screen runs the machine: the screen counts the cycles, lists the alarms and holds the settings for strap feed, strap withdrawal and cooling time. There are two modes – automatic, where the sensor starts a strap for every package, and convey, where the belt only transports and does not strap.

It is built for packing lines in warehousing, logistics and production that run cartons, boxes, newspapers or magazines without an operator standing at the machine. It needs an ordinary 220 V single-phase supply and draws 1.0 kW.

What the conveyor changes on your packing line

• Nobody stands at the machine. The conveyor takes the package in, the sensor starts the cycle and the strapped package leaves on the belt.
• 50 straps a minute. Fast enough to keep a line moving, and the strap and the seal are the same on every package.
• Large packages fit. The 850 × 800 mm arch takes much bigger cartons than the manufacturer’s standard 650 × 500 mm arch.
• Transport without strapping. In convey mode the belt only moves packages through, so the machine can stay in the line when a batch needs no strap.
• Set once on the screen. Tension up to 30 kg, heater temperature, strap feed and cooling time are set on the touch screen and repeat on every package.
• Ordinary power. 220 V single phase, 1.0 kW and 6 A – no three-phase connection is needed.
• Quiet enough for a packing hall. The noise level stays at or below 75 dB(A).

How to use the HIPO ULTRA-B strapping machine

1. Switch the machine on; the power indicator lights up.
2. Load the PP strap reel following the arrow on the outer flange and thread the strap into the inlet up to the pre-feeding rollers.
3. Press the manual (inching) button: the machine fills the accumulator box and feeds the strap through the arch by itself.
4. Wait until the heater plate has reached its working temperature.
5. Choose the mode: automatic, where the sensor starts a strap for every package, or convey, where the belt only transports.
6. Let the conveyor carry the package into the middle of the arch and keep your hands away from the strapping area.

Settings, maintenance and common faults

• Tension. Set on the touch screen; a higher number means more tension, up to 30 kg. Change it in small steps and check the package.
• Heater temperature and cooling time. Both are set on the touch screen. Adjust the heater temperature when the room temperature changes a lot, and the cooling time to the strap and the tension you use.
• Strap in the accumulator. Keep about 1.5 times the length of the strap path in the accumulator box: too much strap jams, too little causes short feeds. The large arch needs more strap than the standard one.
• Weak seals. The heater temperature is usually too high or too low, or the heater plate is worn after long use and needs replacing.
• Loose straps. The tension is set too low or the tension roller is worn.
• Strap does not feed. Check that the reel is installed the right way round, that the strap end sits between the pre-feeding rollers and that the accumulator holds enough strap; clean strap dust out of the strap path regularly.
• Maintenance. Oil the cam running surfaces and the rollers once a week with N68 oil and check the proximity switches regularly. Switch off and let the heater cool for about 5 minutes before any work on the machine.

Before you order a strapping machine with a conveyor

The price is shown on this page. A few details decide whether the machine suits your line: check them before you ask for a quote, or send them to us and we will go through them with you.

• Package size and weight. The package has to pass through the 850 × 800 mm arch; the smallest package is 80 mm wide and 60 mm high, and packages may weigh up to 80 kg.
• Strap width. Tell us whether you run 5 mm or 6 mm strap: the strap path is set up for that width. The strap is PP, 0.5–0.8 mm thick, on reels with a 200–210 mm core, a 400–450 mm outer diameter and a width of 175–190 mm.
• Power. A 220 V, 50 Hz single-phase supply; the machine draws 1.0 kW and 6 A.
• Space and floor. With this arch the machine is larger than the standard model (1414 × 728 × 1738 mm), so we confirm the exact dimensions with your quote; the shipping weight is about 390 kg. Allow at least 2000 × 1500 mm of working space and a floor rated for 350 kg/m².
• Line height. The working table is 850 mm high, so plan the conveyors before and after the machine at the same height.
• Food, medicine and corrosive goods. For food and medicine the manufacturer recommends a stainless-steel version; with corrosive goods such as seafood, keep liquids out of the strapping head.
