AUTO&FOLD-5050 automatic box taping machine that adjusts itself to each carton

AUTO&FOLD-5050 is an automatic box taping machine that sets itself to each carton: air cylinders bring the side belts in to the width of the carton and lower the upper tape head to its height. The machine then folds the front flap, the rear flap and the two side flaps and tapes the top and the bottom in one pass, while the side belts carry the carton through at 16 m/min.

It takes cartons from L200 × W150 × H150 mm up to L600 × W500 × H500 mm and uses Kraft or BOPP tape 48–60 mm wide. Because width and height follow every carton, cartons of different sizes can come one after another.

The machine works on single-phase 220 V, 50–60 Hz and draws 200 W; the size adjustment and the flap folder run on compressed air at 6 bar (6 kg/cm²) with a consumption of 100 Nl/min. A safety guard with doors covers the folding area, and the control box carries the start and stop buttons, the emergency stop and the pressure gauges.

It closes the carton at the end of a packing table or in a line behind a case erector and a conveyor. The working height is adjustable from 600 to 850 mm, so it can be matched to the conveyors before and after it.

How to use the AUTO&FOLD-5050 carton sealer

1. Connect single-phase 220 V and compressed air at 6 bar; drain the water from the separator and check the oil level in the lubricator.
2. Put a roll of Kraft or BOPP tape, 48–60 mm wide, into the upper and the lower tape head, centre it and thread it with the adhesive side facing out.
3. Set the pressure for the side belts, the lifting cylinder and the flap folder on the regulators.
4. Open the folding rods to the width of your cartons, symmetrically on both sides, and set the length switch for the carton length.
5. Press ON and feed the carton in with the top flaps open and pointing up. The belts take it in, the machine closes the flaps in order and tapes the top and the bottom.
6. Take the sealed carton off at the outfeed; the next carton may be a different size.

Operator tasks and process flow with the AUTO&FOLD-5050

To avoid jams or poor sealing, the operator should ensure cartons are within the specified size range, not overfilled, and have properly formed flaps. Regular cleaning of the tape heads and drive belts, as well as draining the water separator, helps maintain consistent performance.

Settings, maintenance and common faults

• Cylinder pressure. Keep it as low as the carton allows – too much pressure crushes light cartons.
• Carton length. Move the micro switch along the slot in the frame to change when the rear flap is folded.
• Tape too tight or too loose. Adjust the main spring of the tape head; thick tape such as Kraft needs more tension.
• Tape leg too long or too short. Move the blade support for the front leg and the limit block for the rear leg.
• Ragged cut or wrinkled tape. Replace a dull blade or turn it the right way round; clean the rubber roller and tighten the tape holder.
• Maintenance. Switch off power and air before any work. Drain the water separator regularly and use only pneumatic oil in the lubricator; clean the cylinder rods; oil the screw rods and the chain every three months; keep the blade clean and lubricated and the machine dry. The belts tighten a little over time – that is normal.
