RUBBER automatic carton sealer: folds the top flaps and tapes top and bottom

RUBBER is an automatic carton sealer that closes the top of the carton by itself: a sensor detects the carton, the flap folder turns in the front flap, the rear flap and the two side flaps, and the side belts carry the carton through the upper and lower tape heads, which tape the top and the bottom in one pass. The belts run at 16 m/min, and nobody has to hold the flaps down.

It takes cartons from W120 × H120 mm up to W500 × H500 mm and uses Kraft or BOPP tape 48–60 mm wide. Width and height are set with hand wheels, so the machine is made for runs of cartons of the same size.

The machine works on single-phase 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz and draws 240 W; the flap folder is pneumatic, so it also needs compressed air. A transparent safety guard with doors covers the folding and taping area, and an emergency stop is on the frame.

Use it on its own at the end of a packing table, or put it in a line after a case erector and a conveyor: the carton enters, is closed and taped, and leaves at the other end.

What the automatic flap folder changes on your packing line

• Flaps closed without hands. The folder turns in the front, rear and side flaps, so nobody holds the carton shut while it is taped.

How to use the RUBBER box taping machine

1. Connect the machine to single-phase 220–240 V and to compressed air; drain any water from the air filter.
2. Set the width of the side belts and the height of the upper tape head to your carton with the hand wheels.
3. Put a roll of Kraft or BOPP tape, 48–60 mm wide, into the upper and the lower cartridge and centre it.
4. Press the ON button; the side belts start.
5. Feed the carton in with the top flaps open and pointing up. The sensor starts the folder, the flaps are closed in order and the carton runs through the tape heads.
6. Take the sealed carton off at the outfeed. When the carton size changes, set the width and height again.

Tape heads, maintenance and common faults

• Tape too tight or too loose. Adjust the tension of the pull spring on the tape head; thick tape such as Kraft needs more tension.
• Ragged cut. The blade is dull or mounted the wrong way round: turn it or replace it.
• Tape leg too long or too short. Move the blade support for the front leg and the limit block for the rear leg.
• Tape wrinkles or runs off to one side. Clean the rubber roller, tighten the tape holder or its spring and check that the tape lies close to the carton.
• Air unit. Drain the water from the air filter regularly and keep the lubricator filled with pneumatic oil; wipe dust off the cylinder rod.
• Maintenance. Switch off the power and the air before any work. Oil the adjusting screws every three months, keep the blade clean and lubricated, and keep the machine dry. The side belts tighten a little over time – that is normal.

• One size or many. RUBBER is set by hand for each carton size. If the size changes from carton to carton, AUTO&FOLD-5050 sets the width and height automatically.
• Cartons. Dry, clean corrugated cartons that are not deformed; plastic-coated cartons cannot be taped.
• Tape. Kraft or BOPP tape 48–60 mm wide, one width and thickness at a time.
• Power and air. A single-phase 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz socket and compressed air for the flap folder.
• Space. The machine measures about 1780 × 950 × 1400 mm and weighs about 240 kg; it ships in one crate of 1920 × 1000 × 1640 mm, about 330 kg.
